Contest Has Ended June 30, 2008
Market Comments for Monday June 30, 2008
Today's closing bell marked the end of the 2nd quarter Running with the Bulls Stock Market Game. It came down to the final trading day where we saw nerdsscoremore's Halliburton hold off the Maniac's Peabody Energy. A huge congratulations goes to the Nerd whose portfolio gained 10.3% compared to the S&P 500's loss of 10.1% (that's 200% gain over the index)! Unfortunately, someone has to finish last and this time Mr. Dow Jones took that "honor" by believing in Citigroup. That belief led to a portfolio loss of 27.5%, almost 40% below the winner. With that being said, 76% of the portfolios beat the S&P 500, with 21% finishing in positive territory.
A few quick facts regarding the stocks during the contest's time period (5/15 to 6/30):
Best peforming stocks: NBR +18.6%, BTU +13.0%, AUY +11.9%, MOS +10.9%, and POT +10.7%
Worst performing stocks: F -69.9%, SMG -64.1%, FNM -54.9%, C -41.6%, and CAKE -41.0%
Best performing sectors: Energy +5.3% and Health Care +3.1&
Worst performing sectors: Consumers -29.2% and Financials -26.3%
